Ergonomics

Ergonomics is the process of designing or arranging workplaces, products and systems so that they fit the people who use them.

Ergonomics applies to the design of anything that involves people – workspaces, and health and safety.

Ergonomics aims to improve workspaces and environments to minimise risk of injury or harm. So as technologies change, so too does the need to ensure that the tools we access for work are designed for our body’s requirements At SMC we use advanced software packages that can optimise human tasks to verify ergonomic conformity by creating a virtual environment, complete with fully automated production equipment. With the virtual factory created all of the operator’s tasks can be simulated to assess walk distances, access for loading and unloading tools and reach for a large person and a small person to design a tool that is suitable for the majority population.
